Intro to Digital Environment Painting

Last night marked the start of the Simon Scales course on digital painting run through his new school.
It was great to go back to basics and be limited to a single hard round Photoshop brush for use in grey-scale thumbnail studies - shockingly this made the blocking in process a lot easier and faster. I am looking forward to developing some more environment studies and creating more thumbnails to a brief in the coming weeks, but for now I will simply post the thumbnails I did last night during the demonstration.

CDW Studios

I have started doing some courses via the new CDW Studio that Simon Scales has opened up here in Adelaide.
The first class was run by Tim Mcburnie and was a fantastic insight into some of the underlying skills and process behind his images.

Below is a tonal sketch portrait I sketched as he went over some of the underlying basics to drawing in Photoshop:

Above: a quick copy I did of Tim's character and composition he was working on as a demonstration in class. His process of drawing is very different to what I have been taught, so it was a great opportunity to sketch along and try and get a feel for the different approach!

Colour experimentation

Testing out a new digital colouring technique and trying to use brighter colours that I would usually avoid. Having fun just mucking about with it!
